2012.........

 2012

SO THE BIG QUESTION.......What are your goals for 2012?

You may wonder what a goal is. According to thefreedictionary.com, goal is the purpose toward which an endeavor is directed; an objective.  My definition of a goal is something that I want to attempt to complete by a specific time period.

My 1st goal in 2012 is for me and my family to develop a better relationship with God. Yes, I know who God is but sometimes I feel that I take him for granted. Sometimes it takes us working on ourselves before we can try and work on other members of our family. I have learned that the hard way, but I have gotten a better understanding for that.  I must say that my daughter holds me accountable and doesn’t let me leave out of her room at night, until we have gotten down on our knees and Thank God for the day. It’s a start, right?

My 2nd goal is to have a STRONGER relationship with my family. Being a wife, working mother and a student can be very hard. I always have the thoughts in my head that I am not giving someone enough time.  No matter what, God comes first and then your husband. Well, putting your husband first in front of the kids can be somewhat challenging. They are still young and need every bit of my attention. There are many days that I am left frustrated because I have to come home to the little ones, cook, put them to bed, try to study and then go to bed and do it all over again. Now did I mention spending time with my husband……well….. maybe my 2nd goal should be to get my priorities in order!

My 3rd goal was to go back to school. I decided to take 2 classes online with Sam Houston State University. I kept contemplating on taking these classes because of having a 5 month old and 7 year old keeping me busy. Even though I contemplated, I kept thinking about the bible verse, Heb 13:5..."Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." That verse allowed me to focus; it let me know that God would be there every step of the way if I put him first.

You may think, wow she only has 3 goals for 2012? No… I have more but these are the most important that matter. At this point in my life, I am definitely working on my personal road. God is working on me and walking by my side, allowing me to take baby steps to get there; I am not in a hurry to get to the Highways of Life.

Are you going to attempt to complete your goals in 2012?

Personal Road

Growing up as a kid, it seems that you always want more than you have. Looking back, I must say that I had an average lifestyle. I went to public school, and as I got older, I was able to be in activities. I remember being in Drill Team because I liked to dance and being in a club called "African American History Club”. While interacting with others through dance and being in the club, I can recall many times, looking at some of the people and thinking, their parents must have all the money in the world. They were driving nice cars and had the nicest things. I had nice things  that my family could provide too but at that time I didn't think so.

Now that I am an adult, there are still times that I have lots of questions of how and why.  Why is it that they have this, or have that? How are they are able to afford what they have? Why isn't my family like that? Wonder what it is like to live in their home? Will I be able to have that anytime soon? Will I ever be able to make as much money as them? Will I ever get a chance to be a stay at home mom? Will I be as successful as him or her? Why me? And the list of questions goes on, and on, and on........

When my faith gets weak during those times of questions, I have to remind myself that God created us all differently. God puts you in a place of where HE wants you, not where you want to be. He sends us through hard times to get our attention. Sometimes it seems that those hard times are filled with storms that just won't go away. Just when we are about to give up, he comes and rescues us. God has me in a place right now of where I need to depend solely on him. Take a minute to listen to one of my favorite songs:

Today I encourage you as well as myself to just take a look around and see what all God has done. We may not be where we want to be, but we must remember that God has it all in control. Remember that just when you think that your situation is bad, someone else's situation is probably worse.  I may not have the best car, best house, or best job but I am definitely content where God has me.

I must THANK God for providing me with a roof over my head, a job that pays my bills, food to eat and a vehicle to get me to and from. Most of all I THANK him for being #1 in my life, a wonderful family and amazing friends.

Are you accepting the road that God has you on........

Highway.....

When I decided to write my blog, I contemplated on what it would be named. I thought and thought and even asked a friend what it should be called. She gave me suggestions of "Keeping Up with the (my last name)" and I thought well, I do like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but I am sure that no one wants to keep up with my boring family... The next suggestion that I loved was, "Wish I was a 'Desperate Housewife', again, I LOVED the show, Desperate Housewives, but I don't think that title fits. The last favorite suggestion, was "Life of a Working Mommy", that title fits very well.  I began to think, there are lots of mommies out there that work, so nope, that wouldn't be interesting!!!

I began to think, and think, and think, and it finally hit me.....Life's Highway. Of course when you look at me, you would probably think, oh she has had a good life and everything is just so peachy for her. WRONG!!!! I have had my ups and downs, riding on Life's Highway. But while riding, it has allowed me to become a stronger child of GOD and a stronger person. We are faced every day with the decison of going straight ahead, to the left, to the right, or even backwards. Sometimes the decision can be very confusing, hard and can even be the wrong decision.

As I travel on Life's Highway, I would like for you to ride or walk along with me. You might wonder why I said ride or walk. Well, when you are riding, it seems that everything is going along smoothly and you get there so much faster. When you are walking, it seems that everything gets in your way and it takes that much longer to get there.
Hopefully I can be encouragement for you and you be the same for me.

Are you ready?????? Let's Go!!!
